It's TOILE y'all!

If you know me, you know that I. LOVE. TOILE. It's a weakness...
Anyway, The Pretty Organized Palace is having a toile party, so I thought I'd join in.
Here's some cheery toile in our master bath...

Some country toile in the kitchen...

Even some toile love in the scrappin desk...
(transferware counts as toile, right?)

And what better day to show you what I have in mind for these old dining room chairs. Here's one before toile. It just screams 70's. If these chairs could talk, they'd probably say something like "groovy".

I'm making slipcovers for some of them...

But most of them will look more like this...
Toile to the rescue once again! I love how it dresses up these chairs, and the white paint is so much more bright and happy. I can't wait to get them all finished and around the dining room table. If you want to see more of the toile filled kitchen, click here.
Happy Toile Tuesday to you all!!

The Finished Kitchen

I'm posting my Finished Object Friday a little early. Actually it's the finished project of 6 months, but I digress. You'd better sit down and hang on - it's gonna be a long ride through pictures, honey. Don't say I didn't warn you. I'm just so excited about my FINISHED kitchen! You'll have to bear with me while I share...
Up first is the kitchen when we first laid eyes on it.

I immediately declared my utter repulsion with the placement of the island, then promptly began to ponder a better plan.
Here's the plan we came up with after MUCH head scratching, pointing, and grunting.
The sink and laundry area before:

The sink area after. Minus the laundry closet.

A before shot looking the other direction. Boy was it ever dark and drab-o!

And after:
*note* I'm still in love with my scrappy desk work station. Just wanted you to know that.

Now we come to the Before shot of the fridge side of the room.

And after much paint, prayer, and elbow grease:

There used to be a laundry closet here:
But now it's gone and this is what took it's place:
I'd say my little contractor guy did a bang up job, wouldn't you?
The funny thing is how we used all manner of mismatched cabinets and stuff just to keep from buying anything new. (I'm cheap that way.) Like the new cabinet over the stove and microwave - it USED to be the big tall bookcase that was next to the sliding door. Dave whacked it in half and reused that baby. Add a few coats of paint, some doors, and trim work and you'd never know. How's that for being "green"?!
He even put in some lights over my sink and installed a nice little switch and everything. I've decided to keep him. He's pretty handy.

Now I have a great place for all my cookbooks (that I never use, but we won't get into that). I love having an outlet in the cabinet so I can plug up my toaster oven and use it right where it sits. (score another one for Dave!)

The little display shelves make a perfect spot for some red transferware teapots.
I'm also in love with my new faucet. I love the antique finish.

I guess that's about it! The only thing left to finish is the ceiling. Just need to patch up the places where old walls used to be, and replace those two unsightly fluorescent light fixtures with something a little easier on the eyes. But that's for another time, right now I'm enjoying the kitchen just like it is. And we're both enjoying being DONE more than anything else.
You'll find more finished projects at the Chari Tree.

LOVE this Man!

I have to take a few moments here to gush about my sweetie. (I have warm and fuzzy feelings right now) He always knows how to make my day!
Aren't these beautiful!? The card plays "Sugar Pie, Honey Bunch" when you open it. Cute.
He knows how to make me smile - sometimes he'll come in with a cinnabon box (that would make ANYBODY smile)...or truffles (I'm somewhat of a chocoholic. It has mellowing agents, OK?)...last week it was girl scout cookies. But I'm on a "diet" and flowers don't have calories. What a smart man.

Oh, and one more thing. He works well with children.

I just love this man.

Southern Snow Storm

Sunday morning found us in a "Winter Storm Alert". I can hear you Northerners snickering. We got 1-2 inches, not a bit of ice, the roads were perfectly clear, and the whole town shut down...until it all melted, which was by noon the same day. That's the way I like a winter storm - brief.
The boys had fun in it while it lasted. They had to play fast.

This was the first time Carson had ever touched snow. Yeah, I know he's 3 years old. It's pitiful.
He bent over and touched it cautiously...

Felt it a little bit to get used to it...

And then....
*
(I'm hanging my head in shame...)
*
*

He decided to "draw pictures" in it.

He just searches for ways to mortify his mother. You'd think he was raised in a barn.

Sunday evening we had our regular Church service, since the "winter storm alert" was lifted. But it was still quite cold so we bundled the boys up once again. Carson shares his mother's severe disdain for coats.
And Jackson's cheerfulness was really annoying him.

Hhmmph. Is it Spring yet?
